All parents want their children to succeed in whatever they set their minds to. You want them to be confident, independent, and resourceful. And while you can’t control everything that happens in their lives, you can help them develop the kind of mindset that will set them up for success. Here’s how to help your child build a creator’s mindset.

1. ENCOURAGE THEM TO ASK QUESTIONS

Creativity starts with curiosity. When your child asks questions, it shows that they’re interested in the world around them and are looking for ways to understand it better. Help them explore their curiosity by encouraging them to ask lots of questions.

2. ENCOURAGE THEM TO BE CREATIVE

The first step is to encourage your child to be creative. creativity is the cornerstone of a creator’s mindset. It’s what allows us to see the world in new and different ways, and it’s what gives us the ability to come up with original solutions to problems. There are tons of ways to encourage creativity in your child. You can provide them with art supplies and let them express themselves however they want. You can take them on field trips to places like museums and art galleries. You can even sign them up for creative classes like dance or music lessons. The important thing is that you give them the space and freedom to be creative without judgment or criticism from you.

3. TEACH THEM THE POWER OF PERSISTENCE

Persistence is another key ingredient in a creator’s mindset. It’s what allows us to keep going even when things are tough or we’re feeling discouraged. Teach your child the power of persistence by setting a good example yourself. When you face challenges in your own life, don’t give up; show your child that you’re capable of overcoming obstacles through hard work and determination. You can also try teaching them specific persistence strategies, like taking short breaks, setting small goals, or breaking down a big project into manageable steps.

4. HELP THEM EMBRACE FAILURE

In order to become a creator, your child needs to learn how to embrace failure as part of the process. This doesn’t mean that you should allow them to fail without consequences—if they break a rule, there should still be consequences—but it does mean that you should allow them the opportunity to fail and learn from their mistakes without judgment from you. One way to do this is by using what’s known as a “growth mindset.” This means teaching your child that intelligence and abilities aren’t fixed traits—they can be developed through effort and practice over time. Helping your child develop a growth mindset will not only make them more resilient in the face of failure, but it will also motivate them to keep learning and growing throughout their life.

5. PRAISE EFFORT OVER ABILITY

When children are infants and toddlers, parents naturally praise them for everything they do (“Good job standing up!” “Great job waving bye-bye!”). And while there’s nothing wrong with praising children for their accomplishments, it’s important to make sure that you’re also praising their effort. For example, instead of saying “Good job getting an A on your math test,” try “I’m so proud of how hard you worked on studying for that math test.” This will help your child understand that it’s not necessarily their natural ability that leads to success, but their willingness to work hard. And when children believe that they can control their success through hard work, they’re more likely than not to achieve their goals.

THINGS PARENTS CAN ENCOURAGE FOR A CREATORS MIND

As any parent knows, children are little sponges, soaking up everything around them. And while it’s important for them to learn the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic, it’s also important to nurture their creativity. After all, it’s that creativity that will help them think outside the box and solve problems in their own unique way. So what can parents do to encourage their child’s creativity?

Puzzles

Small puzzles.  When your child gets good with them, take away the box cover and see if they can put the puzzle together without the image.

Mazes

On paper or online format. This Trains the mind to simulate your child’s next move.

Legos

Create and build fun structures.

Pretend play

Whether it’s pretending to be a doctor or a teacher or even a musician, pretend play allows children to explore different roles and experiment with new ideas.  Jump in there and play with your children.

Arts and crafts

From painting and drawing to sculpting and collage-making, arts and crafts give children a chance to express themselves in a creative way. And finally, consider taking your child on occasional outings to places like the zoo or the aquarium.

CONCLUSION:

Having a creator’s mindset is one of the best things you can do for your child developmentally. It leads to innovation, new solutions, and happiness. As a parent, you can help your child develop a creator’s mindset by praising their effort over their ability, encouraging them to take risks, and teaching them how to fail gracefully. By instilling these values in your child from an early age, you’ll set them up for success in all areas of life.
