It seems that with the passing of each day, the likelihood that your child will become witness to one of their friends being bullied, or will fall victim to a bully themselves increases. With the advent of social media and digital technology, it’s become easier than ever before for bullies to hide behind the guise of an internet profile or a social media profile. And when you’re a child, it can be a scary situation – especially if you just don’t know who to turn to. Often times, children feel embarrassed to report their experiences and they can even feel ashamed.

Here at Mastery Martial Arts, our goal is to ensure that our students feel safe at all times, even when it comes to bullying. If you’d like to learn how to prepare your child to recognize bullying when they see it and to stop it dead in its tracks, continue reading down below.

The One Character Trait

There is one character trait in particular that holds tremendous power over a bully and when your child embraces this character trait, they can reduce the effect of bullying tenfold – confidence.

At Mastery Martial Arts, we’re endlessly focused on instilling a newfound sense of confidence in all of our students. Not only do we place an emphasis on physical abilities, but we also strive to boost your child’s confidence in other areas of their life too, including at school, with friends, and at home. When a child loses their confidence, bullies often pick up on it. This is one of the main reasons for why bullies do what they do – they feed on self-consciousness. Think about it, have you ever seen a bully pick on someone who is confident in themselves, their abilities, and their values?

Through our martial arts training programs, we strive each and every day to equip our students with a clear, positive mindset – the exact type of mindset that allows them to build their confidence.

Confidence Doesn’t Eliminate Bullying

Remember, while confidence may be the one character trait that holds power over a bully, it does not necessarily eliminate it completely. However, it gives children the power to approach bullying differently and to respond to bullying in a more positive way. When you’re walking around, standing tall, and feeling good about yourself, you can more easily brush off the effects of bullying. Essentially, you begin to send a different message to the world and the people in it. Our goal is for every child in the Mastery Martial Arts program to send that message.
