How To Ensure That Your Child Makes The Right Choices
When it comes to being a parent, it’s no secret that worrying about your children comes along with it. In fact, it might not even be considered “worrying.” Perhaps it’s simply making sure that your child makes the right decision and the right choices in all the right areas. Now, part of it comes with teaching your child right from wrong, instilling good values in their lives, and teaching them about how to uphold a high moral standard. Here at Mastery Martial Arts, part of our training program looks to reinforce all of these ideas. But when your child is out of sight, how can you ensure that they’ll actually make the right choices when life throws them into an unfamiliar situation? Let’s talk more about it down below.
It All Starts Between The Ages of 5 & 12
While you might not realize it, the ages between 5 and 12 years old comprise the most critical period in which your child will develop their values and their morals. Like we mentioned earlier, you can do everything that’s expected of you as a parent, but when it really comes down to it, your child will only choose to adopt these values and morals into their life if they feel confident enough to follow them.
Confidence is everything at a young age – confidence dictates how your child may act in the classroom, it dictates how your child socializes with their peers, classmates, and friends, and it dictates how your child feels about themselves. When your child has the self-confidence to tell the difference between right and wrong, they’re going to stand by their decisions and they’ll become immune to peer pressure.
How Does Peer Pressure Work?
Believe it or not, peer pressure really does begin at an awfully young age. And for your child to become immune to peer pressure, they need to feel confident in themselves to make the right decisions. But then again, how exactly does peer pressure work?
Peer pressure is designed to prey on your child’s insecurities – it preys on a child’s lack of belief in themselves. From there, they look to others to make decisions for them, and if they see a group of their friends doing something wrong, treating someone poorly, or making a questionable decision, they may feel inclined to simply go along for the ride – even if they know that it’s wrong or a poor decision.
The Antidote
The only true antidote to rid your child’s life of peer pressure is to ensure that they’re confident in themselves, in their abilities, and in their values and morals. Here at Mastery Martial arts, we’ve worked with thousands of children all throughout the state of Rhode Island to ensure that they feel confident in themselves and in the values that they believe in.
Through our martial arts training program, we don’t simply focus on the body – we focus on the ways in which our students can apply what they learn to other areas of their lives too – in school, in sport, at home, and with friends.
